Today we learned a valuable lesson. We learned that we need to be prepared and ready to film. While we were filming we encountered to many problems that we just gave up filming entirely. However, I put together an imovie that is the building process and I posted it on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbwROvNMJwY. Also after failing at filming, I met up with coltrane and bradley to work out the board. We laid out what would be where. We all agreed to write out a 50 word paragraph that explains us and our jobs. That would be the intro. Our main goal was not to many words because that makes it less eye-appealing. We will mainly put pictures and focus our board around the social media we have accomplished with the newsletter. So in summary I filmed/Acted for about 3/4 of the class, but we encountered to many problems and realized that we were just wasting our time. so we went back to work on the board.
Today in class, I helped palmero create a whole new script because the last one was not good at all. I also watched over Matt fansler and him doing his hawaii research work. I think that will set us apart from the other groups, because no one else will talk about hawaii in there projects. I also helped malia and now with the building, and picked how big I want the wholes in the grow bed to be. Isaiah was also takeing photos of are group today and I helped him with that, we need to get a lot more pictures and video so we have things to show to shark tank folk.
Today I worked on a new info graphic for our group. It is on how the aqua phonic system can help the planet. Also and how it ties in with Hawaii and the Hawaiians. I did not finish it yet. I still need to add some more pictures. I also worked on the social media. Updating the Instagram. Lastly I took some pictures of our group building our aqua phonic system. I am going to put the photos on Facebook and Instagram. In the Instagram we also changed our bio. Next time we need to get a group photo for our group. As well as work more on the kit.
We got a lot of things done today. We finished putting together our system. We glued on the little pillars underneath our grow bed. We changed our idea, we were going to put it it on the side, or make it go in the fish tank, but our builder had a abetter idea. We also started to plan out our ideas of what size holes we are gonna put at the bottom of our grow bed, we did not get to start drilling the holes, bur we did figure out which size we like better. Our group also finished the script for the shark tank, they still need to add a bit more, but for now its really good. Somethings we still need to work in is finishing the script, making the holes at the bottom of our grow bed, putting together our board, and getting ready for the shark tank.
Today in class my group went through the hardest time we ever had. This was the point where we were fighting and disagreeing the most. To the help of teachers, we were able to share how we felt and learn how to get past the problems. We each had our own task that we alone were going to accomplish. My task was to finish up the brochure. I am almost finished all I need to do is add a few more pictures of the final system. The final system was completed right when class ended so I was able to take photos and put them on the brochure yet. That will be my assignment for the next aquaponic workday. I will take photos of the final system and add them to the brochure. Since I was not able to finish up entirely I helped put together the final product.
To day I drilled an over flow hole. Today I made an honest mistake; I drilled the hole not taking into consideration of the grommet. The grommet got in the way so what Keneko did was he did was cut the grommet to make it fit. But my main goal of the day was to get the system up and running. I accomplished it we have three out of four plants planted and we also got all the fish in. the next day I am going to plant the last plant and make sure the fish are doing ok. I know it does not sound like a lot but me and Blaine spent most of the time cleaning the gravel and the plats. We had to pick out all the fertilizer form the roots and we had to fill and drain water form the gravel to get it clean.
Today while our builder and architect was trying to bend our smaller octagon and the already compromised structure broke again because the glue gave out. So they had glued it again. They also cut our plexiglass into the correct size so it wouldn’t over lap itself. Our salesman was doing what a good salesman would do and tried to get our product out there by updating out Facebook page and emailing different companies that we had found on the Internet. And our documentarian had started on our poster board for the shark tank along with a little help from our salesman.
Today, while looking back at previous progress as a small piece of gold, todays work was more like a big rock with many small diamonds in the rough. I think that today lessons were learned which should be first day things. I learned that arguing is like grabbing a gun and shooting yourself in the foot instead of helping yourself. I really think that this group is shaping up, starting to slowly form up into a working machine, given a task and transforming it into another success, I’m telling you we are almost there.
Today in class I worked on filming and editing for our video that will be eventually used for Kickstarter. We had many different components that we still needed to be recorded. The things that were recorded we’re, a voice over that I recorded of Nikki. And then we took videos and pictures of our actual system. We also took a video of our system when it was empty and then we showed the process of filling up the tank and how everything works. We also then took a video of the pump and filter running to show the cycle of how the water was pumped up etc. I also helped tyler and Aly. I just gave tyler a slight lay out for what key components should be on the brochure and in what order. And helped Aly think of a slogan since ours was deleted.
Today I mostly worked on the poster board. My job was to lay out the board and how it is going to look. It was challenging because we all had different opinions and we couldn’t have lots of words or else it would be boring. Once we finally got the design it looked good and we were all happy with how it looked. In the second part of class I looked for photos that we would printout onto our board. Once we fund the pictures we printed them out but they were way to small so next time we need to print pictures out of the big printer because our pictures are too small.
Today Emma and I finished filming for our video. We spent the first half of class filming each other working and the process that we took in order to create our final aquaponic system. I was also trying to help my other group members and would check on them to make sure that they were working. During the second period, we sent a lot of time filming our system. We took out everything and were creating a timelapse of us putting it together. During the next class we will be finishing the video and hopefully start adding items to our trifold.
Today, I continued working on the brochure. I tried to think of a good slogan that we could put on our brochure, flyer, and poster board. I had to think of many slogans, and then my team chose on of them to use. I did some research on what a brochure is for, and what it is meant to do. This helped me to create my brochure because now I know what to include and all that. I am almost done with the brochure. The hard part is pretty much just trying to figure out what to put on each page because the order matters too.
Today I worked very hard on finishing the flyer for our product, which I succeded. I finished the flyer and had Mr.Werberger proof read it and make sure it was alright and correctly formatted. I did create it in the first period so I had Mr.Werberger look over it so I could make all my corrections for the second part of class. I also helped a lot with the video by working with Emma and Nikki. We all contributed a small part to the video today and made it even better. I also helped Tyler by coming up with more slogans because our other document was deleted. I think that I worked very well today and contributed a lot to the team. I think I helped by bringing us one step closer to being done with the entire project itself.
So today my group completed the aquaponics prototype and worked on refilming the entire video for the kick-starter. We ran across some difficulties concerning the lighting as well as the wind in the microphone but solved them by asking for better supplies. Overall though, this consumed a large portion of our time. We also mapped out the display board to use which will help us in the long run to be more organized. We also were featured in an aquaponics blog with a viewership of over 15,000 people which gave us an enormous amount of publicity. Bradley and kris wrote about what they would say for the tank.
Today I did a lot of testing with the water pressure to get it to the perfect pressure. This pressure was to make sure that the grow bed would fill up and the auto siphon could then take the rest out. This took most of the first period to test because it took along time to do that process of filling up and emptying. Then when I realized that the lowest setting was still to high I had to make a hole in it. After all the testing the product is done and I was very happy to see it get done. After that I helped work on the poster board we could not start construction because we wanted a different poster board then supplied. I specifically worked on a little 50 word introduction about my self. Later I will have to write maybe a 1-2 page essay.
Day Reflection Aquaponics. Today in aquaponics we spent each class period working on two different things. The first period I first checked our online status. Uploaded and updated our facebook and instagram. I then joined and started the Fish Tank Pitch with Marshall. Wrote most of the outline and some specifics we will say. We made some guidelines and criteria we will have to follow and searched for the text we have already written that we could use. The next class period I worked on the Project Board with Marshall. We started on this because we thought we should be able to work separately on the pitch and combine thoughts in class one day. So one the board I created a mock notability document and allotted each space and panel on the board to a title and topic. We looked at online project boards and consulted other groups to refine this.
Today I worked on the pitch-script for our group and I helped the salesman with outlining the components for the board. Me and the salesman did some of the pitch and decided that we would work on it at home during the week. We made a checklist of what we our putting on the script so that we cover everything we need for the pitch. I helped the salesman by thinking of components to put on the board while he wrote it down on notability. We finished that outline and now we just have to work on the actual board. I still have to take pictures of the final aquaponics system since we finished it today.
today in the first period we finished up the construction on the boxes and next class we will be able to put gravel and water in to test if it works and everything it all good.In the afternoon I am now done with the video I edited with the sound and words the sound took me along time to figure out but it worked well in the end. Next classes we will have to focus on the board and putting things on it. We also need to shot our group video. A lot to be accomplished but the way we worked today tells me that we will be able to complete everything on time
