Please have these books ready for the first week of school. I would also strongly recommend students read either or both books over Xmas break. We will move quickly through both of them during the 3rd quarter.
Your main assessment for these 2 novels is to write a two page essay that compares the protagonists in response to this prompt - "To what degree is it possible to resist oppression while living in a totalitarian regime?"
Feed, By MT Anderson
One of our two books for the 3rd quarter is MT Anderson's Feed.
1984, By George Orwell
Book two is 1984, by George Orwell. I don't have a preference for a paper copy versus an electronic copy. I suppose it depends more on your predilection, or your concerns about too much iPad usage. That said, I found a free copy of 1984 here and no doubt others exist. Apart from that, these are all also available from the public library system.
A good place to start your journey with Orwell's 1984 is this SparkNotes video. Remember, it will help you understand the character better if you understand more about the symbols in the book.
