Shark Tank Preparations
On April 17, you and your team will be presenting your Aquaponics Kit to a team of experts in the style of “Shark Tank.” Therefore, until that evening, we will concentrate on developing the skills to give an excellent oral presentation. These include speaking clearly, confidently and extemporaneously (which is to say, to know content so well you don’t need notes, and to know what’s important to tell in a short period of time for maximum effect.)
On Monday, we will begin by looking at models of good public extemporaneous speech and creating a rubric that guides effective public speech.
On each day after that, we will use class time to work on your skills and to work on your presentations. We will break each block into three sections -
Your classwork grade will be based on your team completing its filmed speech and emailing it to me, and showing work progress during class on our construction days
Your nightly homework grade will consist of the following activities:

- First 15 mins - The beginning of each class will begin with an activity to help teach extemp. speech,
- The middle (longer) section will be dedicated to you practicing giving speeches within your teams, filming your attempts, and then sending me those speeches by email (I will post these on the Weebly pages for you to review),
- Last 15 mins - Then we will close with more skills-related activities.
Your classwork grade will be based on your team completing its filmed speech and emailing it to me, and showing work progress during class on our construction days
Your nightly homework grade will consist of the following activities:
- Writing presentation drafts and then performing peer and self-critique of the videos.
- Beginning your independent investigations and drafting Tumblr posts to show your progress.
