3. What are the experiences of living in a totalitarian society? What are the effects on people? Include material from our fiction as well as history studies.
In a totalitarian society the people suffer through having no power, and are at the mercy of the totalitarian power which can do with them what ever they like.
Examples in feed:
- people have a chip in their head
Constantly monitored
Corporations can do almost anything they want without the people noticing since they are literally in their head
- environment is also suffering
Ocean is so polluted that it is no longer water and life cannot survive in it
Forests are gone
The world is literally rotting away. At the place where violet lives the fake sky is peeling away, and the hospital on the moon is leaking air from a ruined room.
- global issues
People barely pay attention to these things because the corporations have them in an iron grip and they go along with it
People don’t think of the issues like how nature has been destroyed and more so on things like, Niro making a lake to fight sea monsters in with his giant battle ships as a game
There is war of some kind and dispute, but the corporations don’t seem to want people to know about it. People are suffering from something but the feed is blocking it out. Maybe the corporations are with a government and are now making a physical attempt at totalitarianism
Examples in 1984:
- people have no freedom
Everything is decided for them
Any form of resistance, even a word, causes the thought police to make you disappear
They can manipulate the people in any way they want. You don’t know what’s real, false, or what else there might be since they deceived Winston so many times already. The people think life is good simply because the party tells them.
We saw what happens to thought criminals when Winston was caught
The people live in a state of war and poverty so that big brother can maintain control more efficiently
Examples in Nazi Germany:
- work was a must
- people were constantly fed propaganda
- Gestapo took out any one who said anything against hitler
Concentration camps killed many, especially Jews who hitler made into a target
