"War is Peace"I think this means when you're in constant war then there is no need for a rebellion in the country which means there is always peace. I think this helps us understand a totalitarian a government because when the country is in war they can control what goes on in the country so there is no chance of a rebellion. The war is a tool used by the government to create a common goal or interest of the society. The war never advances or decreases and it is simply an everlasting fact. It is used to expend excess resources and keep peace within Oceania by keeping any resources that people could use as luxuries, and spending them. The war is a way for the government to spend it’s money and other things so they don’t need to worry about an inequality between everyone. Each country is technically at war with the other two countries in existence. However, they only keep the whole country aware of them being at war with one country at a time. By keeping the entire country in the state of war, everyone can focus their hatred on someone else and control everyone. The war is so they can control everyone by keeping them in that constant state of fear. By doing this, each country MUST be aware of everything that is going on within the other countries. They are aware of whats going on, and then the people at the very top are always aware of what is happening. The war exists to preserve the Party. So, if the war is perpetual, then the Party is perpetual. | “Ignorance is strength” is a quote from the book, 1984. The quote was confusing at first but it’s meaning is now a bit clearer to us. Because the people are ignorant to all other outside information, except for what the government is telling them, that gives the government more strength and power. Because of all the other lies, especially the other parts of the quote that come before it, these are all that the people know of and are brainwashed, and because of that it gives power to the government. |

Winning quote of the day: Noah Failauga "The government of Oceania is at war with its own people." Could this be true? Are there signs that the people of Oceania are the real enemy of the Government?
