Team B Parsons family is the neighbor of Winston the kids are jr spy's. jr spys are kids that work for the party who turn in people to the party that do thought crimes. Every new generation is becoming more controlled by the government. Parents are really scared of the kids because the kids will turn the parents in. They live in Oceania. Winston says that if he writes in his diary he will be killed because it is a thought crime. Winston likes writing in his diary but he is paranoid that if he gets caught he will be killed. Winston doesn't want to hide his diary because he knew they would find if they hid it or not. Orwell uses the parson family to show that the totalitarianism is so corrupt on the city that the kids turn the parents in. The parson family shows what every family in the city is like that because the parsons is a normal average family. "She was a woman of about thirty, but looking much older. One had impression that there was dust in the creases of her face." Orwell did not explain the Parson family in a good tone. | Team C In the scene, the mother and Winston's sister are on a sinking boat while Winston is on a platform lifting up and the boat is sinking. I think Orwell is trying to say that you have to make sacrifices for the better and that his family is gone and you have to accept it. He is also trying to say that he is all alone. The government makes the people exercise and that makes Winston to cough. I think it shows how much the government controls the people's life and they should have more freedom than they have. It shows how much freedom they have. The government lies to the people about the war. For example, 4 years ago, Oceania was at war with Eastasia and allies Eurasia but now it is opposite. The government were never alliances with Eurasia but Winston clearly remembers they were. The government lied to the people about that to keep things under control. Summary: Team D This chapter of the book is talking about Winston's job. Winston's job is to edit and "update" the records and the newspaper. By doing this, the Party is forcing the people to change the past, so that certain people that were in the news or in the records are completely erased and that person is led to not exist anymore. All records and newspapers are written in Newspeak. This language is created so that there is only positive reinforcement in the language, which prevents people from thinking negative thoughts about the Party. Plus, the language is being cut down, so that the thoughts that people are able to have are limited. The story that Winston fabricated is showing that the world that they lived in is dictated by the government. The government has the ability to erase, and create people on a whim. Wether they have a good reason to erase and fabricate, or not. Austin, Caelin, Kai, Krislyn |
